Mechacon crash fix?

Hi
So do we have any working fix for Mechacon that fixes laser burnout issues? Year ago after dumping mechacon someone wrote:

• It may be possible to fix the laser burnout issues (especially when using DVD-RW discs). No more "Disc Read Error"!

I wonder if someone fixed Mechacon crash via firmware mod?
