Fan stopped working

Hi,

the fan of my PS2 recently stopped working so I replaced it with a brand new one (not original) but it didn't work out. I have read on the internet that the fan connector could be damaged (even if it looks perfect to me) and that I should test it with a multimeter. I can easily find a multimeter in Amsterdam but how can I check if the connector works? I never used this kind of tool. Plus, do I have to check other points on the motherboard or just the connector pins?
